High-tails – Maps

By definition, High-tails aren’t waiting around.  It’s no coincidence their debut track “Maps” explores the stale feeling of standing still and the need for journey.  That idea never been capitalized better than in the song’s looped chorus:

I’ve only seen my fingerprints on one of seven continents.

The rim hits of a boss-nova-like drum introduce the series of clean guitar stems by member Samuel Mason.  They rise and fall in the background while frontman Nicholas Griffith drives the track with story-telling lyricism (see below).  High-tails also slides in a quirky pop of Melodica at the takeaway.  We love the sound (and its potential) from this Australian quartet, it’s bright and cut for long drives with the “roof gone“.

Keep listening to more music from down-under on Soundcloud here (courtesy of manager, Jerko).  There, you can find “Maps” available for free download (as well as on Bandcamp).

Lyrics for “Maps”

I’ve been staring at a map on the wall
At a map on the wall
At a map on the wall
And it fills me up with a thousand lives and a thousand worlds and I feel so tall
And I’ve only seen my fingerprints on one of seven continents
And I’ve only seen my fingerprints

Prince

I was born as an Australian girl in an Australian house in an Australian town
And I changed my name to Frederica Fame from Benedita Brown
Benedita Brown
And before I had my very first kiss I had fallen to an Irish prince
Before I had my very first…
